Ballad, 73, former Evansville resident, died last Thursday night at her home in Long Beach, Calif., following a stroke of paralysis suffered Sunday night. Funeral services were held in Long Beach Saturday after which the body was cremated. The ashes will be brought to Evansville for burial at a later date. Mrs. Ballard, formerly Miss Allie M. Eldredge, was born Sept. 21, 1864 on a farm near Evansville where she grew to young womanhood. She was married here to Ernest J. Ballard, prominent Evansville jeweler, 49 years ago. Mr. Ballard died 19 years ago after which Mrs. Ballard resided for some time here with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fellows. She left Evansville to make her permanent home in California eight years ago. While in Evansville, Mrs. Ballard was a member of the local chapter of the Eastern Star and the Baptist church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eileen Beath, Shanghai, China, who with her husband and their two sons are in the United States on a furlough and have been in California visiting Mrs. Ballard; two sons, E.
