M. Ballard Had Lived Here Since 1861 The death of Mrs. James M. Ballard occurred about fifteen minutes after twelve o'clock Saturday morning. Mrs. Ballard had been in fairly good health right up until the time of her death. For several years past she has not been strong, becoming more frail each year. On Friday, Mrs. Ballard was up and around the house as usual. She went to bed in the evening and dropped asleep and a little past midnight she simply stopped breathing, the end coming most peacefully. Mrs. Ballard's maiden name was Theda L. Brown. She was born in Hume, Allegany county, New York, May 28, 1825, where her home was until she was united in marriage with James M. Ballard of Centerville, New York, December 14, 1846. In 1861 Mr. and Mrs. Ballard moved from New York state to Wisconsin, locating on a farm east of this city. In 1863 they moved into town and into the house on Liberty street, where the home has since been. Mr. Ballard passed away the 22nd of July, 1914. They lived together nearly 68 years. Mrs. Ballard was formerly closely associated with the work and interests of the Free Will Baptist church and took an active part in all that pertained to this church in Evansville. The funeral service was held at the home of Ernest J. Ballard, Monday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Mrs. Copp, a former pastor of the Free Will Baptist church and a close friends of Mrs. Ballard. The funeral sermon was from the text "She Has Done What She Could." The interment was in Maple Hill cemetery. Four sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ballard, two of whom survive their parents, Oscar B. Ballard and Ernest J. Ballard, both of this city. Some of those present at the funeral from out of the city were Nathan Ballard, Mrs. Geo. Wiggins, Ethel Lawton and Mrs. John Armstrong of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Ballard of Beloit, B. F.
