The deceased was born near Cleveland, Ohio, from which place he moved with his parents when a boy, in the fall of 1854 coming with them May 1, 1855, to the farm on which he had since resided. Being of a strong constitution, the picture of health, his death was unexpected and fell with startling force upon the friends. The day of his death he rode many miles and was very happy and full of life and ambition, even to the time when last seen by his family. He left the house for the barn as was his custom, and not returning immediately, search was made. In a short time it was found that the dear one had passed to the other shore. On his father's side he came from puritan stock and those who were engaged in protecting our country in the wars of 1776-1812. He was possessed of many virtues, generous to a fault, strickly honest, he had a host of friends who will mourn his sudden demise. He leaves a wife, two children, a brother and sister to mourn the loved one. "Nearer my God to Thee, E'ne though a cross we bear." April 2, 1898, The Badger, p. 1, col. 4, Evansville, Wisconsin
