Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Helen BAXTER ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ PIONEER RESIDENT CLAIMED BY DEATH Mrs. Helen Baxter Answers Final Call After Lingering Illness; Buried Sunday Mrs. Helen Baxter, 86, a pioneer resident of this vicinity, died at the home of her son, John Eastman, Magnolia, at 1 p.m. Friday following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held in the Eastman home at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. J. R. Singleterry of the Advent Christian church officiating. Burial was made in the Magnolia cemetery. Mrs. Baxter, formerly Miss Helen Marie Thurman, was born in Clinton County, N. Y., Jan. 1, 1843 and came to Wisconsin with her parents in 1847 locating near Magnolia. She was married Sept. 16, 1860 to James B. Eastman and of the three children born to them, two died in infancy. In Oct. 1870 the deceased was married to James Baxter and to this union was born a daughter. Mr. Baxter died in 1891. Mrs. Baxter is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Victor Eager; a son, John Eastman, a sister, Mrs. J. G. Babcock, all of Magnolia; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
