E. Brooks C. E. Brooks, who has been ill for nearly a year passed away at his home on South First Street, Friday evening, aged 69. Born near Blanchardville, Wisconsin, March 29, 1883, he was married to Miss E. Wescott, of Farmer's Grove, Green County. Previous to his mariage he had been a school teacher, but later took to farming until his removal to Evansville in 1899. During his residence in Evansville Mr. Brooks took an interest in all public affairs and was a man much respected on account of his merits as a good citizen and sterling honesty. He was prominent in lodge work being for the last seven years clerk of the Modern Woodmen lodge of this city. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow; two sons, Earl and Ralph; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Carr, North Platte, Neb., and Mrs. Estella Gabriel, of this city, and two brothers, Ellis, Champaign, Ill., and Will, Hersey, Neb. The funeral was held Tuesday at the home, the Rev. Thomas W. Gales officiating. Interment being in the Maple Hill cemetery, where he was laid to rest with the beautiful ritual service of the Modern Woodmen, who accompanied the body to its last resting place in uniform rank. The funeral services were very impressive, Mrs. W. F. Schultz and Mrs. Lyle Patterson rendering as a duet, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Those attending the funeral from outside were Mr. and Mrs. Therlow Patten and four daughters, Whitewater; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hoveland, Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Westcott, Fay WEstcott, Albany; Mrs. Flora Walmer, Albany; Mr. and Mrs. George Caskill, Jess Uren, Frank Uren, Argyle; MR. and Mrs. Arneson, Stoughton; Mr. and Mrs. John Walker, Beloit; Dr. and Mrs. Terry Durner, Monroe.
