Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: John BROOKS ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Sudden Death Mr. John Brooks, aged 89 years, died suddenly from a stroke of paralysis at the home of his son-in-law David M. Johnson, on Liberty St., Wednesday night, August 25, 1897, at 11 o'clock. The deceased was considered very well and hearty for one of his years and had worked regularly at light work in the garden up to Tuesday evening, when he was called to his supper at 6 o'clock and was noticed leaning upon his cane against the wall in the kitchen, and when called did not move. Members of the family went to him and found that he could neither move nor speak. Dr. Colony was called and all possible assistance rendered, but he never regained consciousness and passed away as stated. This was his second stroke, the first occurring at Onstead, Mich., where he was living with his son. Mrs. Johnson was then called to his bedside, and as soon as he was able he came here with her, about eighteen months ago, where he has remained ever since. The funeral was held at the house today, Friday, at 1 o'clock; the remains were taken to Cooksville and interred beside his wife, who departed this life thirty years ago. Rev. H. Sewell officiating clergyman. The Enterprise, August 27, 1897, p. 1, col. 4, Evansville, Wisconsin
