The deceased was born in Orange county, N. Y., June 6, 1833. She was married to Samuel Cleland, Nov. 14, 1853 and three years later, in 1856, they settled on a farm in the town of Center near Footville, Wis., where they resided until 1892, when on account of failing health, they moved from the farm to this city where they have resided until death called them away. Samuel Cleland, her husband, died Oct. 8, 1904. Eight daughters survive them, six of whom were with their mother during her last hours. She has been a patient sufferer from rheumatism for many years, but notwithstanding the great afflicition she was every cheerful and hopeful and never lost interest in the things of life. She won many friends among both old and young, but none were dearer to her than the children who delighted to wait upon her, always to be rewarded by a pleasant smile and cheerful word. A most fitting tribute was paid to her memory in the poem read at her funeral, "Growing Old Gracefully." The funeral services were held at the late home, Monday afternoon, Rev. D. Q. Grabill officiating. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery. March 20, 1908, p. 3, col. 3, Enterprise, Evansville, Wisconsin
