Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Charles H. COLEMAN ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ It was a sad, sad word that conveyed the news to the over-stricken family of Professor J. E. Coleman--parents, brothers and sisters--of the sudden death of a younger brother, Mr. Charles H. Coleman, which took place at 3 o'clock p.m., on Monday February 28th, 1887, at Marshal, Dane County, Wis., in his 20th year. Mr. Coleman went to Marshal on Friday to visit some friends living near there, and was suddenly taken sick, and a dispatch was sent home to his friends to that effect, and this was speedily followed with another saying that Charley was dead. Prof. Coleman and his mother lost no time in getting ready to go to the boy, for it only lacked a few minutes of train time then. He was visiting in the family of Mr. Bolton, and there was where they found their fears more than realized, for all that was mortal of a dear brother and a loving son was stark in death. The fatal malady was heart disease. His remains were brought home Tuesday noon, funeral services were held in the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon, and conducted by Rev. Mr. Hanmer, of the Free Methodist church, and then his remains were borne silently hence to the beautiful cemetery east of town. The house was given up to the school, of which the deceased only one year ago was a graduating member, friends and relatives, filling the large auditorium to its entire completion. Hardly one year ago a sister died, after a brief sickenss, and now a brother is gone to the other side. We need not speak of his virtues, for all counted him as one of the most excellent and worthy young men of the place. March 4, 1887, Evansville Review, Evansville, Wisconsin
