Collins at his home in this city at noon, Monday, following an illness of seven weeks. For the last three years his health had not been good, but it was only recently that his condition became serious. Mr. Collins was one of the best known residents of this vicinity, having lived in the neighborhood of Evansville for seventy years. He was born in Ireland, June 19, 1850. When he was but five years of age his parents emigrated with him to America, coming directly to Wisconsin and to the town of Porter, where they entered a farm and became prominent in the settlement of the new country. In 1875 Mr. Collins was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie McMahan of Footville. For 38 years Mr. and Mrs. Collins made their home a few miles east of the city, on the Janesville Road. They moved into Evansville in the spring of 1914, purchasing a home here on South First Street. Mr. Collins was active in local politics in the town of Porter and in the country. He was a life long democrat and worked faithfully for the interests of his party. He had held a number of town offices. He was a member of St. Paul's church in this city, of Carrol Council, Knights of Columbus of Janesville, and had been a Catholic Knight of Wisconsin for twenty-seven years. The funeral was held in St. Paul's church yesterday morning. The Rev. Father McDermott of this city had charge of the service, assisted by the Rev. Father Harlan of Edgerton and the Rev. Father Condon of Oregon. Following the service in the church the funeral party drove to Janesville, where Mr. Collins was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Besides the widow Mr. Collins leaves to mourn his loss five sons, Alphonsus of Center, John, residing on the old home place, Jerome of Janesville, Joseph and Marc of Evansville, three daughters, Mrs. James Barrett and Miss Elizabeth Collins of the town of Porter and Miss Pauline Collins of this city.
