Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Ann Eliza DAVENPORT ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Mrs. Ann Eliza Davenport was born in West Center County, New York, in the year 1826, February 14, St. Valentine's Day. She was reared by a widowed mother, who taught in a Friends' school, and inculcated the religion of her fore fathers, that of the Quakers, to her pupils and children. Those early teachings followed the deceased through life. She was an earnest Christian woman and for all that was good and right. Lovable in her nature nad of sterling character. She had three brothers, one of whom survive her. She was married to Ira M. Davenport, February 14th, 1855, in New York City, and soon after moved to Southern Wisconsin where she lived most of her life. She had two daughters and three sons. One daughter died in infancy. She suffered the loss of a devoted husband in February, 1890, and about two years following was called upon to part with her remaining daughter by death, since that time she has made her home with or near her sons, three of whom survive her. About a year ago she had a stroke of paralysis which deprived her of the use of her right side. She was cheerful and patient through her sickness and expressed herself that she was ready and willing to go when God called her. She lived a busy, useful life, and at the time of her death was eighty years, one month and five days. Mrs. Davenport died at the home of her son in Chicago, March 19th, 1906, and the remains were brought to this city March 21st; arriving on the 12:45 p.m. train. The funeral party was met at the depot by several old friends who followed the remains to its last resting place in Maple Hill Cemetery. March 24, 1906, The Badger, p. 1, col. 4,Evansville, Wisconsin
