Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Charles DAVIS ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ OBITUARY Charles Davis, 70, a lifelong resident of Rock County, died early Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. K. D. Shaw of Janesville. While he had been in poor health for the past four years Mr. Davis was able to be out Saturday night, and recently attended the fair here in the best of health. Mr. Davis was born in the town of Porter, Feb. 16, 1854. The early part of his life was spent in Porter and Union, and for many years was a member of the firm of Asmus and Davis of this city. Mr. Davis is survived by five children--three sons, Will Davis, Barron; Charles Davis, Magnolia; and Joseph Davis, Seattle, Wash; two daughters, Mrs. K. D. Shaw, Janesville; and Mrs. Roy Griswold, Seattle, Wash; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, T. C. Davis, Janesville, and A. L. Davis, Minnesota. He was a member of the Cooksville Masonic Lodge and E. F. U. The funeral services will be held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. K. D. Shaw, of Janesville at 12:30 p.m. Friday, after which the remains will be brought to Evansville where services will be held in the Methodist church here, interment being in Maple Hill cemetery. Ever square in his dealings and faithful to his promises, Mr. Davis in his many years of residence in this city made many friends who deeply regret his death.
