Spratler Passes Away Sunday Prominent City Man and Long Time Employee and Director of Baker Mfg. Co. Walter Scott Spratler, 74, retired director of the Baker Manufacturing Co., passed away on Sunday afternoon in his home on Church St. The son of John Albert and Amelia Fick Spratler, he was born May 27, 1878, in Mineral Point. He attended school there and then worked for the Illinois Central railroad in Dodgeville. He entered business in Juda in 1901. Sept. 19, 1903, he was married to Bertha Brown of Mineral Point and they lived in Juda until moving to Evansville in 1904. Mr. Spratler was with the Baker firm for 39 years, serving as foreman in the windmill department for 33 years and as director for 25 years. He retired nearly 10 years ago. He was a member of the Episcopal Church in Mineral Point, Royal Arch Masons and Order of Eastern Star, Evansville. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Fellows, Evansville, and Mrs. Glen Colden, Sauk City; a son, Walter, Jr., Evansville; six grandchildren; two brothers, Frederick of Sauk City and Louis of Mineral Point. An infant daughter, Geneva, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Roderick-Ward funeral home, the Rev. Grant Lawrence, Congregational Church, officiating. Burial with Masonic rites was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Fellows, a grandson; Russell Wedlake, Madison, a nephew; Robert Fellows, Phil D.
