Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Alfred F. GIBBS ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Alfred F. Gibbs of this city departed this life after a short illness, Saturday evening, September 3. Mr. Gibbs was born on the old Gibbs homestead, west of Evansville, April 12, 1856, his parents, Zenas and Mary Elizabeth Gibbs, coming from New York State a number of years before. July 14, 1878, he was united in marriage to Ella A. Van Patten. To this union three children were born, Maude, now Mrs. Leonard Wall and Lillian, both residents of this city. In the passing of Alfred Gibbs there goes from our midst a man whom all respected, who knew him, as he was of unceasing industry and exemplary habits. Quiet and unassuming, he was a man true to his convictions. A lover of his home and home life he was ever there when his business did not call him away and on this account of this trait of character he will be missed more sadly by the home circle which he leaves vacant. The funeral took place from the home on West Main Street, Tuesday afternoon, being conducted, in the absence of his regular pastor, O. W. Smith, of the Congregational church, by Rev. A. W. Stephens, interment being in Maple Hill cemetery. September 8, 1921, Evansville Review, p. 4, Evansville, Wisconsin
