Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Elizabeth GILLIES ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Mrs. Elizabeth Gillies The death of Mrs. Elizabeth C. Gillies occurred at her residence in this city, last Sunday evening, April 24, 1904, after an illness of some time. The deceased was eighty-five years old, and although a native of Scotland, she came to Wisconsin in such an early day that few citizens survive who have lived in the township longer than she has done. For years her home has been in this city, where she has been surrounded by a wide circle of friends and relatives. She is survived by three sons, Messrs. James, John and William and two daughters, Misses Elizabeth and Maggie, all of whom live here. The funeral occurred from the family residence last Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clcok, the Rev. Rolvix Harlan officiating. The course of his sermon Mr. Harlan defined some of the essentials of a Christian life and drew a parallel from the life of the deceased and the listeners who had known her longest felt that the words were not an empty eulogy but a truthful analysis of a modest life. Many old friends from adjoining towns came to pay their final tribute, among them were William Jones and wife of Emerald Grove; Jas. Gillies, wife and daughter of Edgerton; C. Gilley and wife of Stoughton, Lucian Biglow and wife of Brooklyn. The interment was made a Maple Hill cemetery. April 30, 1904, The Badger, p. 1, col. 4, Evansville, Wisconsin
