He came to America when about twelve years of age, locating at Rutland, Vermont. Several years later he came to Evansville, Wis., and Nov. 14, 1858 he was united in marriage at Oregon, Wis., to Miss Margaret Lamb. He then settled on a farm near Evansville, living there for a number of years when he moved to Brooklyn, Wis., where he built a home and remained until the death of Mrs. Hanlon on Nov. 11, 1889. A few years later, having rented his home, he went to Belvidere, Ill., to live with his daughter, staying there eleven years. He then went to Baraboo, Wis., to live with his eldest daughter at whose home he passed away. Mr. Hanlon was an industrious man, a kind neighbor and a devoted father; depriving himself that others might be cared for. He was held in high esteem by all, being ever cheerful, having a smile and wave of the hand for all who passed by. He made many and lasting friends who will be pained to learn of his passing away. Of the family there remains one son, Joseph Hanlon, of Brooklyn, and two daughters, Mrs. Will Fisher of Belvidere and Mrs. Charles Steinford of Baraboo, Wis. The funeral was held Tuesday at nine o'clock at St. Joseph's Catholic church at Baraboo. High mass was read by Father Reilley, the pastor. The body was taken on the train to Edgerton, Wis., where it was laid at rest by the side of his wife in the Catholic cemetery. April 18, 1912, Evansville Review, p. 5, col. 4, Evansville, Wisconsin
