HUNTER Former Resident of Evansville Dies at Home in Ashcreek, Minnesota Charles H. Hunter, one of Ashcreek's most highly respected citizens, passed away Friday morning at four o'clock at his home in this village. Mr. Hunter was born December 15, 1833, near London, Canada, and at an early age he moved to Ohio, where in February, 1861, he was married to Miss Mary Ellen Williams, who died August 13, 1867. Of this union one child was born, a son, Wm. E. Hunter, who lives in New Jersey. In 1862, he came west, settling near Evansville, Wis., where he resided until 1879. He enlisted in Co. F., 16th Wis. Vol. Inf. on January 4, 1864 and on January 16, of the same year was promoted to the rank of corporal, serving as such to the close of the war. In 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Lucy A. Howard, who with his son William, remains to mourn his loss. In 1886, he removed to Senaca, S. Dak., where he remained until October, 1903, when he went to Ashcreek, and has since made his home there. Mr. Hunter was an honest, upright man in every way, and his many deeds of kindness will long be remembered by all who knew him.
