Meier Laid to Rest Here Saturday; Business Places Close During Services Funeral services for John H. Meier, 42, local cafe proprietor who was killed in an automobile crash at Madison on Tuesday of last week, were held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Paul's Catholic church, the Rev. Father Mahoney officiating. Local business places were closed during the services. Pallbearers were Fred Brunsell, R. L. Collins, Leonard Finn, Joe Straka, J. P. Mann and Bernie Christensen. Interment was made Saturday morning in Maple Hill cemetery. Mr. Meier was born March 12, 1887 in Waunakee where he grew to young manhood and attended school. For a number of years he worked as telegraph operator for the Chicago and Northwestern line at Elroy, Waunakee, Evansville, and other places. He purchased the restaurant here from Otto Hanson eight years ago and has conducted the business since that time. Mr. Meier was a veteran of the World war, having served with his regiment in France, and was a member of the Evansville American Legion Post. He was also a member of St. Paul's Catholic church here. He was married to Miss Nina Park, this city, on September 19, 1921. Besides his wife and son, John, Mr. Meier is survived by his mother, Mrs. John Meier, now living in Madison, and three sisters, Mrs. H. H. Daniels, Mrs. John Julin, and Mrs. Robert Buser, all of Madison. His mother formerly lived in Waunakee, but now is making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Daniels in Madison.
