Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Mary R. MOYER ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ OBITUARY Mrs. C. A. Moyer Mary R. Bowes was born March 18, 1828, and died June 7, 1897, in her 70th year. She spent her childhood and youth in Halifax, Penn., was married to Charles A. Moyer Oct. 20, 1867; one son was born of this union who died in infancy. Her early married life was spent at Selim's Grove, Penn.; fifteen years ago her husband died. After his death she came to Rockford, to make her home with her sister Mrs. J. Antes; fourteen years ago she came with the family to Evansville, where she has since resided. She was in business here for six years wtih Miss Lizzie Antes. At the age of 12 years she was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, in whose communion and services she found great profit and happiness; she united by letter with the M. E. church here, December 10, 1882. For some years she had been in delicate health; her final illness began wtih a paralytic stroke May 16, and since then she gradually declined until she died at 3 o'clock Monday, without a struggle. She realized from the first that this was her last illness; although suffering much she rejoiced greatly in the prospect of so soon entering into rest, asking her sister not to pray for her recovery but for her promotion to the better home above. Her last days and nights were filled with prayer and praise, joyful not withstanding intense pain; it was truly a triumph of the spirit over the failing flesh. The family, the church and the community will all greatly miss the quiet, consistent, lovable presence; she was one of the silent forces of peace and love that bless us unconsciously, that we appreciate like sunshine and miss most truly when it is withdrawn. Mrs. Moyer was greatly beloved in the missionary society of the church and was especially attentive and helpful in the class and prayer meetings. All the chief virtues and fruits of the spirit so abounded in her life, that her harmonious character was less noticeable because so symmetrical. Funeral will be held from the house on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of the pastor, assisted by the church choir and Rev. Sewell. G. W. W.
