Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: John OSBORN ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ DIED Our readers will be pained to learn of the death of our old citizen, John Osborn whose familiar face was so often seen on our streets years ago. Mr. Osborn was a native of New York state, born May 18, 1812 and removed to Wisconsin way back in '42. He settled near Racine where he lived for some years. He then removed to Kenosha Co., on the state line and finally came to Evansville in 1865. His residence, our readers will remember was on Main Street opposite the seminary. He made many friends among our people. His daughters were both married here, Mrs. Dr. Duncan went to Chicago and Mrs. L. C. Osborne to Racine. He finally sold his home here, and moved to Kenosha so as to be with his only surviving brother Sidney. Here they celebrated their golden wedding July 4, 1887 surrounded by old friends, some even from California. The feeble health of this aged couple induced them to go to Chicago to live with their eldest daughter where Mr. Osborn died Nov. 17, after a brief illness. The funeral was largely attended. Dr. Bolton, pastor of Centenary M. E. church officiated, assisted by Rev. Dr. Withrow, pastor of the Third Presbyterian church. The remains were taken to Racine where impressive services were conducted by the old Evansville pastor, Rev. Mr. Goldthorpe, of Kenosha and Rev. Mr. Farmer, of the Racine M. E. church. Many old friends were present to pay their last respects to his memory. He was borne to his last resting place by old men and friends, some of the bearers being over 80 years of age. The sympathies of our readers go out to the bereaved family and especially to Mrs. Osborn, who is sick at 590 W. Adams street, Chicago, surrounded with the loving care of relatives and friends.
