Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Jerome L. Rutty, a civil war veteran passed away Monday at 6:30 p.m. at his home on Liberty street. Mr. Rutty was born in the state of New York on March 8th 1837. When he was seven years old he came to Wisconsin with his parents and settled in Johnstown for a few years, and then moved to Dayton, Wisconsin where he lived until he enlisted in the 31st Wisconsin regiment and served until the end of the war. On Sept. 24, 1866 he was married to Adeline Doty of Dayton, at Evansville. They went immediately to their new home in northern Wisconsin. Two children were born to them, a daughter, dying in infancy. They lived in New Richmond until 1889 at the time of the New Richmond cyclone which destroyed their home and greenhouse. Mr. Rutty was instrument in starting the Masonic lodge at New Richmond fifty years ago and he and Mrs. Rutty were guests of honor at the fiftieth anniversary of that lodge last June. After the cyclone Mr. and Mrs. Rutty moved to Glenwood City, Wis., where they engaged in the hotel business. Mrs. Rutty passed away in 1921. He then came to Evansville to live with his niece, Mrs. A. H. Devine. He was married to Mrs. Mary Brigham in December 1922. He is survived by his wife, one son, A. E. Rutty of Chicago, an adopted daughter, Mrs. Frost Smith of Minneapolis, Minn., one brother, Wallace Rutty of Belleville and several nieces and nephews. His friends and acquaintances speak of him as the "old gentleman who was always the same," he always being cheerful and good natured. The funeral services will be held Wednesday at the home at 2:30 p.m. The body will be taken to New Richmond where Masonic burial services will be held, Friday.
