SEAVER ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ OBITUARY -- JOHN D. SEAVER DIED, at Cooksville, Wis., February 2d, 1886, Hon. John D. Seaver; aged 90 years and eight months. Mr. Seaver moved with his family from Darien, Genesee county, N. Y. in the season of 1846, and settled in Cooksville, making the entire journey with a horse team by land. The following year he built the house wherein he lived until his death. His wife died in 1872, leaving him to pursue life's journey alone, but keeping up the semblance of his family and a home, and where it was always the pleasure of the different members of the family to assemble often, to see "father." The domestic affairs of the household carefully reposed in his youngest unmarried daughter, Miss Evelin Seaver. In the fall of 1850, Mr. Seaver was elected to the Wisconsin Legislature and served the term of 1851. He was republican in politics, and early in life, was a member of the Christian denomination. He was also a master mason, and one of the charter members of Union (Evansville) lodge. As a citizen and neighbor, many kind things might be said of him, as his council was often sought in civil as well as in political affairs. The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 7th, under the care of Rev. H. Sewell, of this place, and his remains were taken in charge of by the Masonic fraternity of that place, assisted by a delegation from this lodge.
