Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Caleb SNASHALL ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ LAID TO REST Caleb Snashall died at his home in this city, Thursday, Feb. 11, aged 64. In the death of Mr. Snashall, Evansville looses another one of her highly respected citizens and no higher tribute can be paid to his memory than that he was a type of citizen we needed. He was a clean man, who did not preach without practicing. It was only a few short days ago that he was busy in superintending the completion of the Baptist church, of which he was the architect, and in which he had taken a great deal of pride in making of it a model house of worship. No on realized that the grim scepter was hovering around and would soon seek him. He was engaged in sweeping the sidewalk, after a snow storm, when a paralytic stroke touched him and from that he lingered four days, mostly unconscious during that time. The funeral was held at the home, Sunday afternoon and interment made in the cemetery here. In 1864, Mr. Snashall came to Evansville and in partnership with Mr. Adams operated a hardware store, after a few years the senior selling out to Mr. Mygatt, when the firm name became Snashall and Mygatt and during the continuence of the firm a very profitable business was secured. Retiring from active mercantile life several years ago, Mr. Snashall devoted his time to his other interests, both here and in Chicago and was always busy. In 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Emmeline Adams, and to this union three children were born, Arthur A., of the firm of Snashall & Boyd, Dr. Bert, of Delevan, and Dr. C. H., of this city, all of whom still survive him. Besides he has a brother A. J. Snashall and one sister, Mrs. J. F. Phifer, who are residents of this city.
