Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: George F. Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18, 1899, Mr. Geo. F. Spencer, aged 77 years. The deceased was born in the state of Vermont, August 17, 1822. He came to Wisconsin and settled here in 1848, engaging in farming and boot and shoe making. He was the first shoemaker in this city. After being there four years he gave the whole of his attention to farming. In the years 1856 and 1857 he was town treasurer and again in 1878. He also was a village trustee, for 5 or 6 years. Nov. 22, 1849, he married in Porter to Miss Campbell, a native of St. Albans N. Y. Three children were born to them. Hattie L. a photographer in this city, Geo. F., a physician who also resides here and Frank, the eldest died in infancy. Mrs. Spencer died 8 years ago and Mr. Spencer has since lived with his daughter. For several months past Mr. Spencer has been in rapidly declining health and has needed the constant care of a trained nurse for several weeks. Mr. Spencer was a most highly respected citizen. He has ever been a great reader and was well informed on all economic and political questions of the day. The funeral was held from the late home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
