Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Henry STURDEVANT ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Henry Sturdevant was born in Ashtabula county, Ohio, in the year 1841 and in early childhood moved with his parents to Indiana, where he remained but a short time, moving to Wisconsin. Here he grew to manhood and in 1863 enlisted in the 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry, serving until the close of the war. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Maria Searls, and to their union four children were born--Mrs. L. F. Lampheir, Fedora, S. D., Joe Sturdevant, of Carthage, S. D., Burton Sturdevant, of Winona, N. D. and Cyrus Sturdevant, who died in 1877. In 1873 he moved to Fayette county, Ia., living there until 18? when he moved to Miner county where he has since resided. The above obituary taken from the Artesian S. D. Commonwealth, refers to a brother of Wm. Sturdevant, of the town of Magnolia. He was also well known to many in Evansivlle. [note: the obituary says that he moved to Miner County in 1855, this is obviously an error, thus the question mark.] January 9, 1909, Enterprise, p. 4, col. 5, Evansville, Wisconsin
