He was born in the state of New York and after serving as a soldier in the Civil war he came to Evansville, where in 1872 he was married to Miss Amanda Butts, of this city. Twin daughters came to bless this union, Mrs. Mike Tobin and Miss Cora Taggert, both of Evansville, Mrs. Taggert having departed this life, October 8, 1927. The funeral services were held at the home Saturday, the Rev. G. C. Saunderson officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Mr. Taggert has been a harness maker in this city for many years, and was noted for his never ceasing industry and accommodating disposition and his death will be mourned all over this portion of Rock County, by farmers as well as business men, with whom he has had dealings in past years who will remember him as the honest, capable, earnest man he was.
