He came to Wisconsin with his parents in 1856. In 1863 he enlisted in First Wisconsin Heavy Artillery, Company A. serving until the close of the war. He was married to Mary Emalina Coon, August 3rd, 1867, who preceeded him in death Jan. 7, 1921. Eleven children were born to this union, eight of whom survive: Fred, of Vermillion, S. Dak., George of Shakopee, Minn., Mrs. Wilbur Johnson and Chas. Of Minocqua, Mrs. S. C. Brown, Mrs. C. A. Covert, Mrs. Geo. Cator and Ellsworth of this city. He had been in failing health the past year, the end coming March 1st. After a short service at the home Sunday afternoon, March 4th, military services were conducted at the M.
