Thurman died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. J. Smith, Friday, March 19. Helen Bump was born in Delavan, March 19, 1849, moving later to a farm near Albany, where she was educated in the local school and later in the Evansville Seminary, afterwards teaching in the stone schoolhouse, northwest of this city. In 1866 she was married to George Thurman, who departed this life three years ago last September. Twelve children came to bless this union, two of which have preceded their mother to the Great Beyond. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Carrie Lee, Mrs. Alice Ballard, Mrs. Harriet Smith, and John Thurman, Evansville; Mrs. Dell Heide, Minneapolis, Minn,; Mrs. Fanny Barton and Richard Thurman, Albany; Mrs. Helen Seeley, Madison; George Thurman, Jr., Rockford, and Miss Grace Thurman of Janesville. Twenty-seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dell Webb, Spencer, Ia., and Mrs. Amy Anderson, Evansville, and two brothers, G. L. Bump, Albany and Dwight Bump, Danville, Ill., also survive. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. J. Smith, the Rev. O. W. Smith of the Congregational church officiating. The pallbearers were her grandsons, Francis, Harry and Jack Thurman, Maurice and George Barton and Isaac Seely. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery. Relatives from out of town attending are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thurman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barton and family, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Barton, George Bump, Albany; Mrs. Dell Heide and W. C. Preus, Minneapolis, Minn; Miss Grace Thurman and Leslie Wolcott, Janesville; Mrs. Elmer Seely and son, Madison; Mrs. Grace Gunkle, Freeport; Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Bump, Danville, Ill.; George Thurman and daughter, Phyllis, Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Schermerhorn, Rockford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gardner, and son, Delavan; Mr. and Mrs. George Broughton, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Broughton, and George Moore, Brodhead.
