TOMLIN Fred E. Tomlin was born in the town of Brooklyn, Feb. 2, 1873. He was the youngest of seven children of Christopher and Lydia Tomlin His education was obtained in the district school and the Evansville seminary. Later he took up the study of telegraphy and soon obtained a position with the Northwestern railroad and continued in this occupation for more than twenty years. March 26, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Effie Nelson of Kendalls. In early life he became a member of the Masonic lodge, the members of which were faithful at his death. Two years ago his health failed him and physicians advised him to seek a more healthful climate, and in September 1909, he moved to New Mexico for a short time; later moving to Rocky Ford, Colorado, with the hope of regaining his health. Here he became manager of the Western Union telegraph office, where by his kindly words and manner he endeared himself to all who knew him. About seven years (sic.) ago his health again failed him. He had nearly recovered from this attack when he contracted a severe cold which settled upon his left llung. This weakened him greatly, but he was thought to be gaining a little each day. About five days ago he became violently worse and passed quietly away Friday, March 3, 1911, at the age of thirty- eight. A young man in the beauty of life. He leaves, besides the faithful loving wife and her sister who has lived with them, his father, Christopher Tomlin, two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Graham, and Mrs. Sarah Miles, three brothers, John Tomlin, Evansville; Eugene Tomlin, Deer River, and Jo.
