Towns, Town of Porter, Dies Sunday in Home Near Gibbs Lake; Buried Tuesday B. W. Towns, 61, well-known farmer in the town of Porter, died in his home near Gibbs Lake at 4:15 a.m. Sunday following a week's illness from complications. Funeral services were held in the home at 1:30 Tuesday, the Rev. Wilson Denny, Beloit, officiating. Burial was made here in Maple Hill cemetery. Mr. Towns, youngest son of John and Mary Towns, was born Mar. 3, 1868, in Bedfordshire, England, and came to this country with his parents, two sisters, and a brother when four years old. The family settled northeast of the city in Cooksville where another sister was born. Following the death of his parents, two years later, Mr. Towns made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mayo until he was 14 years old when he went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Peach. He attended rural schools and the Evansville Seminary and on March 16, 1889 was married to Sarah Jane Peach settling on his present farm. Mr. Towns had been a member of the Fulton Congregational church since 1902 and was treasurer and charter member of the Farmers' Insurance Company of the Porter township. He was the last charter member of the telphone concern in that township. Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by one son, Malcolm; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Sargeant, Cherokee, Ia., and Mrs. James Mullenbach, Chicago; and one brother, William Towns, Albany.
