Obituary: Rock County, Wisconsin: Edward VAN KEUREN ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, June 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Edward Van Keuren died of Bright's disease at his residence on North Madison street, on Wednesday morning the 4th inst. He was born Nov. 30, 1834, at Newburgh, Orange county, N. Y., and was married to Emma H. Shurter at Coldspring, N. Y., Oct. 21, 1858. Two children were born to this union, both of whom are dead. Decendent came west with his family in the winter of 1864 directly to Wisconsin, settling in Magnolia, residing there only one year. Then moving to Footville, afterwards to Kansas and eventually returning to Footville, from which place at a later date they went to the northern part of the state, residing at Brookside, Pound, etc., where he worked at his trade as carpenter. Finally settling at Middle Inlet in 1886, where Mr. and Mrs. Van Keuren were engaged in the timber business and farming as well as keeping a general store, until his removal to this city about two years ago. Decedent enlisted in 1862 in Company B, New York State volunteers and went out to serve his county as a brave soldier remaining in the service over thirteen months and was honorably discharged. He leaves a brother Cornelius Van Keuren of Shopiere, two sisters in New York state, besides a loving, wife and a granddaughter, who have the sympathy of the community in this their great affliction. Funeral services will be held from the residence on Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. James Churm officiating clergymen. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery.
