CUNNINGHAM, Bert - Born at Pioneer, Mich., June 7, 1896. son of Mrs. Clara Cunningham, Fife Lake, Mich. Enlisted at Milwaukee, April 1, 1917, in 67 th Co. 5th Regt. Marines. Trained at Paris Island, S. Car. Sailed for France June 11, 1917. In action at Belleau Woods where he was wounded June 7, 1918, by a machine gun bullet, in left thigh which leaves the left leg permanently short. Landed in U. S. March 17, 1919, mustered out Oct. 5, 1919. GARRETT, Bert - Enlisted in April, 1917, in Marines. Went to France early in 1918. Participated in the battles of Chateau Thierry and Belleau Woods. Was gassed shortly after latter battle. After recovery was assigned as motorist transporting ammunition. Returned from France in Dec, 1918, and was mustered out in Feb., 1919. GOFF, Earl Stephen - Born at Bruce, Wis., July 8, 1892. Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Goff, Bruce. Enlisted Dec. 13, 1917 at St. Paul, in the 4th Co., 5th Regt., Marines. Trained at Paris Island, S. Car. THOMPSON, Henry Irving - Born at Stevens Point, Wis. Son of Gus and Carrie Thompson, Ladysmith. Graduate of Ladysmith high school. Enlisted at Duluth, June 15, 1917. Trained at Philadelphia. Was a Marine Gunner on the U. S. S. Charleston for 17 months, made 8 trips across. The Charleston was credited with destroying a German submarine 40 miles off the Atlantic coast. H. - Born at Plymouth, Wis., Feb. 11, 1895. son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bruegger, Ladysmith. Graduated from Ladysmith high school. Entered service at Milwaukee, May 31, 1918. Trained at Great Lakes, and at Hampton Roads, Va. Transferred from Hampton Roads to "U. S. S. Arizona", July 28, 1919. Cruised to England and France in 1918. Later spent several months at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Cruised to Trinidad Island, B. W. I., and Smyrna, Asia Minor, landing a company of Marines to protect our interests there at the time of the Greek occupation of the city. A short stay in Constantinople complete the cruise. Transferred to "U. S. S. Pastores" a transport, on July 1, 1919, and served until Oct. 13, 1919, making two trips, one to St. Nazaire and one to Brest, France. Mustered out Oct. 31, 1919.
