Blanchard In the passing away of Orin C. Blanchard, April 12th, 1905, our community lost one its most exemplary and highly respected citizens. He was an unassuming and very conscientious man and, although he took but little part in the public affairs of the village, was known throughout as a man firm in his convictions, always loyal to the cause of Christ. Mr. Blanchard was born in Norfolk, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., July 9, 1820 and was married to Miss Hannah Kezar Jan. 15, 1850. Five years later they came to Wisconsin, going to Sauk City then to Reedsburg and finally in 1858 settling in Ironton, where they have since lived. The devoted wife of over fifty-five happy years, and five children – four daughters and a son – survive to sorrow at the first break in their family circle. Mr. Blanchard had for many years been a sufferer with asthma which gradually weakened his wonderful vitality in spite of the most considerate care. A sudden stroke of paralysis closed his life in his 85th year. In looking upon the face of our kindly friend and counselor of many years, we could not but feel that he was the “peace that passeth all understanding” that “sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust” he was “like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down in pleasant dreams.” The funeral took place Friday afternoon, Rev. Warner of Bethel, officiating, speaking from Ps. 37:37. Those attending from a distance were Ms. Ingham of Fairfield, Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Blakeslee and sons of Hustler, Mr. and Mrs. E. Kezar of Roberts, Mrs. Lee Swift of Tracy Minn., and Chas. Fellmore of Warengo, Ill. The Sympathies of many friends are with the bereaved ones in their sorrow but in view of the well spent life, the course run and the faith kept, they know the crown of righteousness remaineth and – it is well.
