Submitted by Linda Hulbert 04 March 2006 ************************************************************************ The Republican, Sawyer Co., September 20, 1894 George Hulbert, an old veteran familiarly known to most of us, was found dead in bed at the Frank Lavell stopping place on the Spider Lake Road Tuesday. He retired the night before apparently in good health and spirits. The authorities here were notified and Coroner Smith, with a jury of six men and Dr. Trowbridge, repaired to the above-named place where, after a thorough examination, was discovered that the man had died from heart trouble. The remains were brought to this city and taken charge of by the G.A.R., assisted by the Sons of Veterans and Drum Corps, gave him a decent and respectable burial yesterday afternoon. Little is known of the deceased, except that he was an old timer and a member of the 42nd Wis. Vol. Inf. (He was a member of the 49th Wis. Vol. Inf. according to his gravestone and Veteran's records, not the 42nd as stated in his obituary.) © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm
