DEATH OF JACOB MAERSCH


     Jacob Maersch, Sr., one of the best known pioneer residents of
Sheboygan died suddenly last evening at 7 o'clock at his home Corner
Huron avenue and Sixth street, after being ill a week.  On New Year's
day Mr. Maersch contracted a cold which developed into bronchial
pneumonia.  His condition was not thought serious but there was a change
for the worse last evening and the end came at 7 o'clock.

     He was born in Eisenschmitt near Trevesrhein, Prussia, Oct 31, 1837
and came to Sheboygan in 1887, and had lived here ever since.  When but
a lad in his teens. Mr. Maersch learned the foundry trade and at the age
of 20, took a prominent position as superintendent in one of the largest
shops in Prussia.  He continued at his trade and occupied a similar
position with the J. J. Vollrath company of this city.  He worked at
this plant up to two years , when he retired.

     He was married to Miss Fredricka Marnet in Rhine, Prussia, and five
children were born to them, Mrs. Frank Kupzick, Jacob Jr., John and
Frank P. of this city and Henry of Dallas, Texas.  His wife proceeded
him in death about a year ago.

     Mr. Maersch was the founder of the J. J. Vollrath Aid society and
had been president of the society up to two years ago.  He was also
vice-president of the St. Boniface society.

     The funeral will be held from the Holy Name church Monday morning
at 9 o'clock with a solemn requiem high mass, the Rev. Father Thill
officiating.  Internment will be in the North Side Catholic cemetery.
