"That while in said service, in the line of his duty at Brandenburg, in the State of Kentucky on the 12th day of March 1865 he received the following wound or disability, to wit: A Gun Shot in the left leg just above the ankle joint while out in a scout with a Squad of fifty men we surrounded three leaders of a Guerrilla Band in a Tobacco House about 12 miles from Brandenburg aforesaid, Capt Marshall of Co.D of said 30th Regt who had command of the Squad ordered Mr. Matthews and this applicant to break open the door. He stept forward and so by hurling stones against it and stepped back & caught our guns. While in the act of discharging his gun a ball from a revolver in the hand of a guerrilla struck him causing the wound referred to. That since leaving the service said applicant has resided at Kinnickinnick County of St. Croix and State of Wisconsin and his occupation has been Farming." Additional Comments: This pension application proves that H.E. Wadsworth was involved in the capture of Jerome Clark also known as Sue Mundy, an associate of the James Gang. Mundy was hung several days after capture.
