The town of Galesville is named after him. A glowing account of his life and achievements was published in "History of Trempealeau County, Wisconsin, 1917". This article is online at http://files.usgwarchives.net/wi/trempealeau/ biographies/galegeo.txt Upon his death in 1868, Judge Gale was buried in the Galesville cemetery. However, his body was later moved to Winona, Minnesota, when his surviving family relocated there. Several years thereafter, it was brought back to Galesville and re-interred in a private plot on the grounds of Gale University, the institution he founded in 1854. The Gale family plot is located behind Old Main on the grounds of what is now known as Gale College, 16563 South 12th Street, Galesville, Wisconsin 54630.
