The case of the State vs. HOBBS (assault and battery) verdict of guilty was rendered, and defendant fined thirty dollars and costs. State vs. Weston SNOW--case was removed to Juneau County. State vs. Hiram BUTMAN, appealed from Justice's court. Defendant paid fine and costs, and appeal dismissed. Isaac NOYES vs. MERRIMAN & BATES, judgement for plaintiff. The Grand Jury found indictments against a couple of institutions in this place for gambling. Quite an excitement was created in town among the boys last Tuesday and Wednesday, by the Sheriff appearing among them with a pocket full of subpoenas, summoning them to appear before the Grand Jury. Some hid in cellars, others in potato holes, and behind old barrels and boxes until they were seized with cramps from their confined positions. But it was all futile, rats must come out to drink, and they were finally all caught, and brought to Limerick.
