D. Brom of Dodge, formerly of Whitehall, was included in the filming of the Marines at the San Diego base by the March of Time for their April release. Corporal Brom writes that he will easily be recognized in the film when it is shown locally. Willie Johnson and Nels Hegge, who were recently inducted into the Marines report that they had their first encounter with Corporal Brom as they entered the recruit depot at San Diego and heard some one issuing orders at the front of the room and instantly recognized him. Brom passed down the aisle to collect papers from each recruit and as he passed the Whitehall friends he, being unable to speak to them while in the course of his duties, gave them a wink and after he had the papers collected he issued an order for Johnson and Hegge to report in the hallway immediately at which time he joined them. --Taken from The Daily Telegram, Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co., Wisconsin, 24 March 1942.
