More than forty friends and relatives called including Commander Regli of the GAR, Eau Claire, the president of the Sons of Veterans and the president of the auxiliary to the Sons of Veteran of Eau Claire. Mr. Miller is Trempealeau County's only suriving veteran of the Civil War. He was born April 5, 1845, in Nauvoo, Ill. He enlisted in the Civil War in June, 1865. He was one of the 60,000 soldiers who under General Sherman marched from Atlanta to the sea, arriving in Washington, D.C. after 55 days of marching. Of all his experiences during his long life this march from Atlanta to the sea seems to him the most outstanding. His favorite song is "Hold the Fort, We're Coming," and his favorite pastime is relating stories of his march to the sea. Except for being laid up several weeks following a fall several weeks ago, his health is good despite his advance age.
