It does not state the name of the newspaper, but in the opening it says she lived "here" nearly 70 yrs. I assume this to be a newspaper published in Trempeleau. (I added the given name of Mr Brissette which is in brackets) Friday, October 6, 1905 Old Settler Dead As we go to press we chronicle the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Reede-Bebault which occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter Decker, Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the age of 87 years - 7 mo, 4 days, having lived here nearly 70 years. The deceased was the first woman settler here, a daughter of Capt. James Reede, an old pioneer and trapper of Trempealeau, and a sergeant in the Black Hawk War. In 1832 he served as government messenger, a position that was always dangerous and many a time nearly cost his life. Elizabeth Reede was born in Prairie du Chien, and was 3 times married, first to Mr. (Francois Xavier) Brissette, then to J.B. Doville in that city. In 1838, two years after the old Indian Mission was established here, she came to Trempealeau with her husband and children, where Mr. Doville died, and after which she was married to Michael Bebault who died many years ago. She was a mother of 15 children, 2 by her first marriage, 7 by the second and 6 by the third. Three of her sons served in the civil was, 2 of them losing their lives and the other died soon after. She is a grandmother to a second generation and is survived by 20 grandchildren, besides 3 sons, Xabier Bissette of California, Jim Doville of Dakota, Minn., Donat Bebault of Spooner, Wis., and 4 daughters, Mrs. Peter Decker and Mrs. Herman Gibbs of Trempealeau, Mrs. Dudley Phelps of La Crosse and Mrs. Sid Norton of Spooner, and an aged sister, Mrs. Paul Grignon of Trempealeau, all of whom mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother and sister. The funeral was held from the Catholic church Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock. The Interment taking place in the Catholic cemetery.
