Gibson 24 JUN 1872--9 JUN 1956 The Blair Press Blair, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin June 14, 1956 Charles J. Gibson, 83, pioneer Blair businessman died Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Whitehall Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. E.E. Olson officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Charles James Gibson was born June 24, 1972 in Cleveland Ohio, the son of James and Katherine Gibson. He came to the town of Preston with his parents at the age of five. He married Mae Ellison March 30, 1896. She died May 14, 1953. Gibson had been in the furniture and undertaking business 60 years. He had been associated in the business with his son-in-law, Milton Frederixon, 40 years. He was vice-president of the Union Bank of Blair at the time of his death and also served as president of the Blair Canning Co., for a number of years. Gibson held the distinction of being director of the National Mutual Benefit Insurance Co., Madison, 31 years. He was recently awarded a certificate of recognition for his 50 years of service in the funeral profession by the Wisconsin Funeral Director's Association at the 75th annual convention at Milwaukee. Soren Urberg sang "Going Home" at the service. Pallbearers were Ellis Olson, James Olson, Theodore Olson, Fred Hoffman, Dean Van Gorden and Howard Rogness. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Milton (Merle) Frederixon, Blair; Mrs. Harold (Evelyn) Johnson, Minneapolis; Mrs. Stanley (Leitha) Ouradnick, Stillwater and Mrs. Eugene (Virginia) Petersburg, Minneapolis; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son James, a daughter Kathleen, three brothers and one sister.
