Submitted by Sherry Martin 10 March 2004 ************************************************************************ Independence News Wave July 18, 1930 Mrs. Emma NICOLS Mrs. Emma NICOLS died Wednesday at age 75. She was the daughter of Giles and Harriet CRIPPS who came from England shortly after the MARKHAMS did. Mrs. NICOLS was born in Dane County, Wisconsin on May 23, 1855. In 1857 the CRIPPS family moved to Trempealeau County, Wisconsin and settled on a farm in Borst Valley. In June of 1874, she married William NICOLS, to this union were born 5 girls and 3 boys. Four boys and a girl died in infancy; Harriet [NICOLS] ELLISON died at age 26. Surviving are Dell, Coral City Wisconsin; Gladys at home; Mr. NICOLS died in 1916. The NICOLS family took care of Hugh ELLISON, son of Harriet. Mr. and Mrs. NICOLS had turned over the management of their farm in 1900 to son, Dell.
