This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Nance Sampson 17 February 1999 ==================================================================== Olson - Kossman Wedding Ceremony at Pigeon Falls is Elaborate Event Reception Follows an Impressive Service Pigeon Falls, Wis., (Special) -- Before the altar of the Synod Lutheran church Saturday afternoon (21 March 1942) at 2 o'clock Miss Pearline Olson, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Olson of Pigeon Falls and William Kossman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Kossman of Milwaukee exchanged marriage vows read by the Rev. E. B. Christophersen. For the ceremony, baskets of roses, carnations and snapdragons and large ferns were place on either side of the altar and a bouquet of red carnations was used for the altar piece. As Miss Phyllis Solboe played, "Bridal Chorus", from Lohengrin by Wagner, the bride, proceeded to the altar on the arm of her father. The bride was lovely in white satin with a long train. Her gown was fashioned with a tight bodice and lace insertions in long puffed sleeves and lace was also used at the neckline. She wore a fingertip veil of illusion net held in place by a coronet of seed pearls. Her arm bouguet was of calla lillies and roses. She chose as her maid of honor her sister, Miss Norma Olson, who was gowned in pink moire taffeta with a full gathered skirt of net over the taffeta, and on her gown was pinned bouquet of white carnations edged in pink. Miss Dorothy Kossman, a sister of the bridegroom was the bridesmaid and her gown was of blue taffeta and she wore a corsage of roses. Attending the bridegroom was his brother, Edward Kossman, and Basil Olson, a brother of the bride, served as usher. Preceding the bride to the altar as flower girl was Jeane Barnekow, a niece of the bridegroom. She carried a basket of pink and blue and her frock was of pink taffeta. Before the ceremony Miss Bonita Winchester of Whitehall, accompanied by Miss Phyllis Solboe, sang, "I Love You Truly," and after the ceremony she sang, "Because of You." Miss Solboe played, "Wedding March," by Mendolssohn for the recessional. Corsages of roses were worn by the mothers of the bride and bridegroom. After the ceremony a reception was served in the parish hall and for the occasion the dining hall was decorated in pink, blue and white crepe tapers. Centering the bride's table was an elaborately decorated wedding cake made by Mrs.Ludwig Goplin. Candles illuminated each table. Guests at the reception in addition to the honored couple were: Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Olson, daughters Norma and Verna and son Basil of Pigeon Falls; Mrs. Lewis Kossman, daughters Dorothy, Mavis, Tillie and Helen and son Edward, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barnekow and daughter Jean and son Ronald, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Rabbach, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Ole Gabriel, daughter Carolyn, son Lawrence, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gabriel, daughter Beverly, of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard Olson, and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Berg, Osseo; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Thompson, Ettrick; Mr. and Mrs. Orton Gabriel, daughter Nancy, Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Johnson, son Gordon, Hixton; the Rev. and Mrs. E. B. Christophersen, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Larson and Miss Phyllis Solboe of Pigeon Falls and Miss Bonita Winchester of Whitehall. Waitresses were Miss Alvina Hanson of Blair and Misses Mavis Larson, Charlotte Johnson, Eleanor Eid, and Marion Tomter. Mrs. Iver Johnstad also assisted in the serving. Mrs. Kossman was honored at a pre-nuptial shower in the hall March 19 and a shower was given for her at Milwaukee where she has been employed for two years.
