Church Emery J. Setzer,52,president of the Hillsboro City Council and prominent business and civic leader in this city,passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday,May31,1958 at St.Joseph's Hospital in Hillsboro. May 23rd he suffered a stroke at his home at 713 Water Ave. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and was recovering when he suffered another stroke resulting in his death. Funeral services were held at the First Congregational Church,Hillsboro,3:30 Tuesday June 3rd.Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetary. Emery J. Setzer son of Herman Setzer and Belle (Hoffman)Setzer was born March 19,1906 in the town of Greenwood,Vernon County,Wisconsin.He attended the Debello School and grew to young manhood in that community. He was married in 1928 to Miss Wynona Totten of Crandon,Wisconsin.Thay established their home on the farm in Greenwood Twp.which is known as the Setzer Homestead.They continued to reside there until six years ago.Thay moved to the city of Hillsboro and purchased the resident at 713 Water Ave. Surviving Mr.Setzer are his wife,Mrs Wynona Setzer of Hillsboro;two sons Donald(Beverly Wood) and Roger(Joette Volkey)both of Hillsboro;five grandchildren,his Mother,Mrs.Belle Setzer of Hillsboro;two sisters,Millie (Mrs.George Durkee of Elroy)and Mrs.Lucinda Chitwood of Janesville.He was preceded in death by his Father,Herman Setzer, and one son who passed away in infancy. In 1952 Mr. Setzer established the SETZER IMPLEMENT COMPANY at 725 Water Street which has continued to be the location of the business. While residing in Greenwood he was a member of the town board for several years.In 1954 he was elected an alderman becoming a member of the city council,he was re-elected in 1956 and 1958,this year he was elected president of the council. Mr.Setzer was also a member of the Hillsboro Lions Club and Modern Woodmen of America.
