Fay and the other POWs were loaded onto the Arisan Maru. The ship sailed October 11th, and came under attack by American fighters. For 12 days, the POWs remained in the hold of the ship. On the 23rd of October, 1944 the Arisan Maru joined a group of ships heading to Formosa. The 24th , this convoy was attacked by American submarines. The Arisan Maru was destroyed. Fay died at sea. His body was never recovered. Ray: Ray participated in the Bataan death march. Starting at Mariveles at the southern end of Bataan, he marched his way to Camp O'Donnell. While Ray was on this work detail, he became ill from dysentery. He returned to Camp O'Donnell, where he died on May 7, 1942. After the war, his remains were reburied at the American Military Cemetery outside of Manila.
