Richard's original headstone was so worn and damaged you could no longer read his name. Richard died of injuries he substained during the war (according to his military records he was injuried and never able to recover). Richard was born to Lawrence and Mary McConnell in Wisconsin. Richard married Lutecia Boldon on 05 Sep 1872, in Vernon County, WI. Lutecia is the daughter of John Love and Nancy Ann Murphy Boldon. She is the grand daughter of Old Sam T and Margaret Love Boldon. Richard and Lutecia had two sons: Lawrence Eli McConnell born 12 Jun 1873 in Forest Township, Vernon County, WI and Louis Guy McConnell born 10 Mar 1876 also in Forest Township, Vernon County, WI. Louis died in 1896 and is buried at the Billings Creek (Johnny Cake)Cemetery. Lawrence moved to the state of Washington by his uncle Albert Truax Boldon. Lawrence was marrried to Leulia A. Abbott, the widow of Clarence A. Stoddard.
