Rutenber Sidney Centre, N.Y. From: Menzo Rutenber Collinsville, Okla. My Dear Sir. Right on the start I wish to apologize for not answering your letter of Nov. 10th. before this time. I really cannot put forward any reasonable excuse for the neglect except that I have been very busy with my regular duties as U.S. Customs Inspector, in charge, at two of the largest Zinc Smelters in the world- having to look after all zinc ores inported from Mexico or Canada that arrive at the smelters here- with this brief explanation I will pass to your interesting letter. Some year ago I had a little correspondence with the Newburgh branch, but do not recall any mention of your people. I have our family history briefly written, but have not been able to locate where I put it- I wrote my mother and brothers and sister living in Ills. and Ind. for a portion of the information wanted - as yet it has not arrieved. When I get it or when I find my own compilation I surely will send you a copy. Your Great Uncle Thos. P. Rutenber was my own Grandfather. Darwin, Menzo and Augustus - sons of Thos. P. - are all dead years ago - the dates of their death would be in the history - above mentioned. My father Darwin died at Sadorus, Ill. Champaign Co. in early August the 8th.- 1888. Aunt Eliza Stewart, died and was buried at Lake Geneva, Wis. at what time I do not now remember. All I can recall of George and William Rutenber is that of a brief mention of them as sons of John Rutenber. I will mak another search to try and locate that missing information. My mother Zelia Adaline (Case) Rutenber lives at Sadorus, Ills with my sister Mrs. Fannie May (Rutenber) Keller, who has one daughter-Ethel. My brother Ernest D. lives in Champaign, Ill. Edwin A. and Henry D. live in Logansport, Ins. Ernest has a daughter, Marie an only child, who is attending the Ills University at Champaign. Edwin has 3 children, Henry 2 now living 2 died in infancy. I hope my next letter will be more satisfactory. With kindest regards to all. Box 184 Your Truly Menzo A. Rutenber
