Amos IVES was born in Wyoming County, NY, Dec 5, 1823. He came west in 1843 and took up his residence in Darien township. At the expiration of four years he returned and carried on business in Pennsylvania for 3 years. In 1851 he again came to Wisconsin and settled in Richmond township where he successfully engaged in farming ever since. April 1, 1876, he was married to Mrs. A.D. CLARK, who survives him. Mr. IVES also leaves to mourn him, four sons by a former marriage; Clinton P., Leamon J., John W. and Amos Riley. Mr. IVES was always closely allied with the best interests of the community in which he lived, was chairman of the board of supervisors for 2 terms and filled acceptably the office of school treasurer for 27 years. Socially, he was connected with the Olive Branch Lodge, I.O.O.F. of Delavan where he was always esteemed for his splendid traits of character and rare good fellowship. He was very firm in his convictions, and even those who could not agree with him were constrained to admire his firmness of character. The funeral was held at Episcopal Church, Saturday P.M., at 2 o'clock and the services conducted by Rev. Chas. Mallory. A large concourse of friends, neighbors and members of I.O.O.F. gathered to pay loving tribute to their deceased friend.
