Anderson, Route 1, Shell Lake, died Wednesday (16 September 1981) at Shell Lake Hospital at the age of 82. She had been a correspondent for the Washburn County Register for 48 years. Born June 27, 1899 in Odessa, Minn. to August and Mary Semrau Leader, she lived in Munger and Argyle, Minn. as a child. She married Elmer Anderson in Crookston, Minn. on June 25, 1920. They lived in Cambridge, Minn. until 1932 when they moved to a farm in the Town of Madge. They moved to the Shell Lake area in 1940. Soon after moving to their Wisconsin farm, Mrs. Anderson got started as a correspondent to the Register. When they moved to Shell Lake she started writing North Shell Lake neighborhood news. She also was a correspondent for the Spooner Advocate, the Rice Lake Chronotype and the Superior Evening Telegram. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Hillsdale Homemaker Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her husband died in June 1963. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Myron (Helen) Smith, Santa Clara, Cal.; four sons, Gilbert, and Roger of Minneapolis; Elmer of Shell Lake; and Warren of Anoka, Minn.; 12 grand- children; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Leader, St. Louis, Mo., and Norman Leader, Thief River Falls, Minn.; and three sisters, Mrs. Freida Bradow, Moses Lake, Wash., Mrs. Martha Kaphing, White Bear Lake, Minn., and Mrs. Helen Sabo, Waterloo, Iowa. There will be visitation after 4 p.m. on Friday at the Pockat Funeral Home and an hour before the service which will be held at Salem Lutheran Church on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Shell Lake Cemetery. --Taken from the Washburn County Register, Shell Lake, Washburn Co., WI.
