He moved to Shell Lake, Wis., March 2, 1917; graduated from the rural school May 24, 1929; confirmed July 17, 1932 at Salem Lutheran church, Shell Lake, Wis., where he still was a member. He died Wednesday afternoon, June 23, 1937, at the age of 21 years, 9 months and 26 days. (Cause of death was a fatal injury caused by a tractor running over his body while he was engaged in picking rocks from a field. The tractor, driven by Walter Skriver, was doing some new breaking on the Anderson farm and he had been watching the plows when the fatal accident happened and did not see the young man in the path of the tractor. It is believed that Maurice had collapsed while working there and had fallen down in the furrow, either by heat prostration or an attack of some kind which thrust his prostrate body in front of the passing tractor.) Funeral services were held from the Salem Lutheran church June 26, at 2 p.m., by Rev. C. D. Mattson, who also sang, "Rock of Ages" in church and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" at the grave.
